There’s something special about handmade decorations — and the bunting banner sewing class I teach at Stitch Perfect & Co is one of my favorites to share. Maybe it’s because a handmade banner carries a little bit of the person who made it, or maybe it’s because it comes out year after year and becomes part of family traditions. Either way, it has a warmth that’s hard to find in something picked up off a store shelf.
On Saturday, November 14, 2026, I’ll be teaching a beginner-friendly class at Stitch Perfect & Co — you can find all the details and reserve your seat here. In this two-hour class, we’ll make a fabric bunting banner from start to finish. To keep things simple and enjoyable, all of the triangle pennants will be pre-cut before class, so we can spend our time sewing rather than measuring and cutting.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave with a finished mantel-sized banner ready for whatever occasion you’d like to celebrate. Some students may choose Christmas fabrics, while others might create something for Thanksgiving, a birthday, a baby shower, or simply a decoration they can display throughout the year.
I’ll provide a range of neutral fabrics that work well across different holidays and seasons, along with felt for letters and decorative accents. Felt is one of the most forgiving materials to sew with — no fraying, no fuss, and easy to cut into any shape you like. If you’d like to see more of what we do at Stitch Perfect & Co, you’re welcome to find us on Yelp, Facebook, or Instagram. Thread, ribbon or twine for stringing the banner, and a take-home pattern with step-by-step instructions are all included. If you have a special fabric you’d like to incorporate, feel free to bring it along, but it’s optional.
What to Bring to the Bunting Banner Sewing Class
Students should bring their sewing machine, pins, and fabric scissors. A little familiarity with a sewing machine can be helpful, but it isn’t required. This class is designed for Beginner+ sewists, and I’ll be there to guide you through each step.
This project is a good fit for a parent making a birthday banner for a child, someone who wants a reusable decoration they can change with the seasons, or anyone who’s grown tired of buying party decorations that only last for a single event.
Along the way, you’ll practice skills that transfer to many other sewing projects. We’ll work on sewing points neatly, pressing seams for a cleaner finish, and spacing and attaching pennants to ribbon. These are techniques you’ll use again in ornaments, appliqué projects, and other decorative sewing.
If this sounds like a project you’d enjoy, visit the class page to learn more about the bunting banner sewing class and reserve your seat. I’d love to spend a couple of hours sewing with you and helping you create something you’ll be able to use for years to come.
