If you’ve been looking for a beginner tote bag class in Fresno, this October 3 class at Stitch Perfect & Co is a good place to start. Some sewing projects are fun to make but end up sitting in a closet. This tote bag is the kind of project you’ll actually use.
On Saturday, October 3, from 1–3 PM, I’ll be teaching our Tote Bag (Run 2) class at Stitch Perfect & Co. If you missed our June class, or you’ve been looking for a beginner-friendly sewing project that gives you something practical to take home, this is a nice place to start.
We’ll be making a version inspired by the viral Call Me By Your Name designer tote that’s been popping up everywhere lately. The original bag typically sells for around $350–$400, but in this class you’ll make your own for $50 while learning sewing skills you can use again and again.
This tote bag sewing class in Fresno is a two-hour, small-group class designed with beginners in mind. If you’ve never sewn a tote before—or if you’re still getting comfortable with your sewing machine—you’ll fit right in. I keep classes relaxed and hands-on, with plenty of time for questions along the way.
All of the fabric, thread, batting, and materials for the project are included. You’ll just need to bring your sewing machine and a set of pins. At the end of class, you’ll head home with a finished tote bag, a printed pattern, and instructions so you can make more on your own whenever you’d like.
What you’ll learn in this tote bag sewing class
Along the way, you’ll learn how to sew straight, consistent seams, create boxed corners that give a tote its shape, and attach sturdy handles that hold up to everyday use. We’ll also talk about simple construction techniques that help give a project a clean, finished look inside and out.
One of my favorite things about teaching beginner classes is seeing students realize that a project they once thought looked complicated is actually very manageable when you take it one step at a time. A tote bag is a perfect example. By the end of the afternoon, you’ll have a bag you made yourself and a set of skills you can build on for future projects.
If you’d like to join us, you can find all the details and reserve your seat on the class page.
